Do you know what you are buying?

Do you know what an 'antique map' or  an 'antique print' is?    This is for first time buyers of this kind of item.
I have had several items returned from upset customers claiming:
   " It's no more than a just a page from a book "

Well, that's right.   Antique maps come from antique atlases - sometimes disguised as books.
Similarly, most antique prints were used to illustrate topics from old books.

There may be a give-away here by the very nature of the name of my business.

Occasionally maps and prints were printed and published as free-standing items, but the majority of 'antique maps' and 'antique prints' on the market today come from broken atlases and books.

As with the sale of any commodity a certain degree of background knowledge is assumed. The sellers of CDs and DVDs do not inform you that it is a 12cm plastic disc with digitally embedded data requiring specialist laser tracking equipment for playback purposes.  Similarly, very fundamental knowledge of antique maps and prints is assumed here.  If you are new to this subject you will need to do some research to satisfy yourself that you know what you are buying.

If you find this fact too distressing to contemplate, please do not purchase these items.
If you were under the illusion that the source of these items is something other than that outlined above, then you are wrong - and you should still think twice about purchasing such items.
I do not want disillusioned customers.  I do not want items returned from indignant customers claiming that they were somehow misled.   If you are still in doubt DO NOT BUY anything.

For some general information on antique maps and prints click here, but it was compiled by me.
Should you doubt by judgment, please seek independent advice and verification.
